Choreographer/Director/Actor/Singer/Recording Artist

Barbara F. Cullen  began her professional theatre career as a child in Cincinnati, where she learned  her many crafts as a member of several theatre companies and touring troupes. 

She further honed her talents at the Cincinnati Conservatory Of Music, and has spent the past forty years expressing her arts and talents across the country. 

A professional actor, singer, dancer, choreographer, director, and recording artist, she has performed in, directed, and/or choreographed hundreds of professional theatre productions, all across the USA. 

As a performer, her favorite roles include: Cassie in A CHORUS LINE, Peggy Sawyer in 42ND STREET, Lola in DAMN YANKEES, Kathy Seldon in SINGING IN THE RAIN and Nugget Rialto in CLUB MOROCCO, a noir musical she co-wrote with Jon Huffman, with music arrangements by Ashton Wolf.

Barbara is also an accomplished and highly respected teacher.  Barbara created, designed, and taught Dance For Theatre at The University Of Louisville for six years, and has taught Dance and Voice at Studio B for eighteen years.  Her list of former students includes Sara Gettlefinger (Broadway’s Addams Family ), Michael Ehlers (Broadway Tour West Side Story),  Maggie Lawson (USA Network’s Psyche), Rob Steiner (Drama Head, Floyd Central High School, New Albany, IN).

For twenty-three years, she was Resident Choreographer at Derby Dinner Playhouse,  and from 2008 – 2012 she was the Resident Director and Choreographer at The Encore Musical Theatre in Dexter, Michigan. 

Barbara has directed and choreographed many Broadway veterans, including Jessica Grove (Les Miserables, Wizard Of Oz), Dan Cooney (Bonnie & Clyde, Nine To Five), Sara Litzinger (Beauty and The Beast), Michael Lanning (Civil War), Aaron LaVigne (Spiderman), and Stephen West (16-year Metropolitan Opera  Resident Baritone).

Barb is also the Co-Artistic Director of Vault1031 and The Armored Car Theatre in Louisville, Ky.  Vault1031 is a 501c(3), dedicated to re-purposing the former Armored Car Company headquarters into a multi-purpose, state-of-the-art performing arts complex—including a theatre, a rehearsal hall, a visual-arts gallery, and a radio station--and fulfill a mission to serve the artistic community of greater Kentuckiana.  Located in the 13th-poorest zip code in America, Vault1031 is also an effort to revitalize a neighborhood by proving true the ancient precept:  “Where art flourishes, commerce will follow.”
